Liposuction technologies slims and reshapes specific areas of the body by removing excess fat deposits. It improves your body contours and proportion. Liposuction is not a treatment for obesity or a substitute for proper diet and exercise. While liposuction permanently removes fat cells, remaining fat cells can expand or new ones can form if you gain excessive weight.
I perform liposuction under general anaesthesia or local anaesthesia with IV sedation.
I use three different technologies for liposuction depending on the distribution of the fat in the body: Lipomatic, Vaser (Ultrasonic liposuction) and Laser (SmartLipo)
When lipomatic and vaser technologies are used, the fat broken up can be transferred to the butt, face, breasts or other areas of the body to restore lost volume or create more fullness.
Liposuction Technologies
Lipomatic is a form of power-assisted liposuction (PAL). It uses a cannula attached to an oscillating handpiece that drives it back and forth to break up unwanted fat cells—without the addition of heat—before suctioning them out of the body.
Compared to traditional suction assisted liposuction, which relies on manual jabs of the cannula, PAL is faster and more efficient. It lessens the time under anaesthesia.
As the incisions are only 1-2 mm, the risk of infection and bleeding which is present in classical liposuction is minimised. Swelling and bruising are rare and minimal.
PAL can be used all over the body—on the abs, love handles, back, bra rolls, upper arms, inner and outer thighs, knees, and ankles as well as under the chin.
Vaser (Ultrasonic liposuction)
Vaser liposuction is a variation of ultrasound-assisted liposuction (UAL). It is a surgical fat-removal procedure that uses ultrasonic vibration to break up unwanted fat and free it from the surrounding tissue before it’s sucked out through a hollow tube, called a cannula.
It can be performed on a range of areas, including the thighs, the calves, the ankles, the hips, the buttocks, the abdomen, the back, the flanks, the arms, the neck, and under the chin. It’s also an excellent procedure for gynecomastia (male breast reduction).
Vaser is better than PAL at breaking up stubborn fat in fibrotic areas like the back, and in men with gynecomastia, the pecs.
Laser liposuction, also known as laser lipolysis, is a minimally invasive surgical procedure that uses laser energy to liquefy fat cells before they’re suctioned out through a thin tube called a cannula. The liquefied fat is easier to remove, making this a less aggressive procedure than traditional liposuction techniques, with a faster recovery time.
The most popular areas for laser liposuction are the arms, thighs, love handles, stomach, and chin. It can also be used on areas that need some tightening, such as the neck.
Who’s a good candidate for liposuction?
Since liposuction is not a weight-loss method, ideal candidates should be within 30% of their ideal weight, with small pockets of pinchable fat that resist diet and exercise. Candidates should be in good health. In addition to realistic expectations, good skin elasticity is essential to a good outcome.
Is vaser liposuction painful?
There is no severe pain involved. Some of the local anaesthetic in the fluid remains in the tissue and that helps to reduce post-procedural pain. Mild pain is managed by pain killers both in the hospital and following discharge.
When can I get back to work?
It depends on how many areas were worked on; however, on average 3-5 days later the patients can deal with the daily activities other than activities requiring heavy effort.
How many kilos shall I lose after the procedure?
Liposuction is not performed for weight loss. It is a body contouring procedure.
Are my abdominal muscles going to be visible (six pack) after the procedure?
Male patients have a flat, muscular stomach depending on the anatomy of their muscles and their sports activities.
Do I need to wear a pressure garment, if so for how long?
Patients need to wear a pressure garment right after the procedure. Pressure garment needs to be worn for 2-3 weeks. Pressure garment minimises swelling and bruising, helps the skin smoothly adhere to the underlying tissue and speeds up healing.
Does fat reaccumulate at the same area after the procedure?
Provided that the patient does not gain excessive weight, fat does not reaccumulate at the same area.
