Nose Filing

What is nose reshaping?

Nose reshaping surgery is mostly performed to eliminate the arched appearance on the bridge of the nose. In this procedure, plastic surgeons essentially shave away the protrusion on the nasal bone that creates the arched appearance, revealing a straighter and more aesthetically pleasing nose structure. Since nose reshaping does not involve significant intervention in the nasal bone or other structures, the patient does not experience significant swelling and bruising in the face and eyes after the surgery. Because these problems are avoided, nose reshaping is becoming one of the most preferred operations for patients with arched noses. The surgery is performed under general anesthesia.

What is nose reshaping and how is it done?

Nasal reshaping is a cosmetic surgery procedure generally performed by patients seeking to correct problems related to the nasal bone, such as nasal hump and curvature. This procedure can be performed on only the bones, or, if necessary, cartilage tissue can also be reshaped. This allows the nose to be brought to the desired shape.

This surgery is performed by specialists in aesthetic, plastic, and reconstructive surgery, and is carried out under local or general anesthesia depending on the patient’s condition.

In addition to classic equipment, ultrasonic devices and rotary motors (Piezo device/Piezo method) can also be used in the surgery. The surgery reshapes the bone and cartilage tissues on the bridge of the nose, eliminating the hump. During the surgery, the skin is separated from the bone and cartilage tissues, then the tip and root of the nose are brought to the desired height. Then, the reshaping process is performed based on these positions.

The use of protective devices such as tampons during the surgery depends on the surgeon’s choice. Since the bone structures in the nose are not interfered with, there is no need for instruments (plaster), but bandages may be used to support the bone tissue.

The filing process is generally nose aesthetics (rhinoplasty) This is one of the procedures included in rhinoplasty. Because patients who need reshaping surgery also require aesthetic intervention regarding the tip of the nose, nostrils, and nasal angle. During the examination, your doctor will inform you in detail about the procedures and surgeries to be performed on your nose.

Reshaping surgery is mostly preferred when the nasal hump is smaller. If there is a larger hump, protrusions, or curvature in the nose, other rhinoplasty methods are used.

What is the age limit for nose reshaping?

Nose reshaping, like other rhinoplasty procedures, should be performed after the nasal bone development is complete. In Turkey, nasal bone development is generally completed around 16-17 years of age for women and 17-18 years of age for men. In very special cases, the age limit for this surgery can be lowered after examinations.

Healing after filing

Nose reshaping surgery takes between 1 and 1.5 hours. Since there is no bruising or swelling on the face or around the eyes, the recovery period is short. Patients can return to their normal daily lives shortly after the surgery.
