Cryolipolysis is a non-invasive fat reduction method used to reduce excess fat in certain parts of the body. This method is performed by freezing at low temperatures targeted fat cells.
Similar to freezing technology, cold lipolysis targets fat cells under the skin and freezes them. The frozen cells then die and are gradually excreted through the body’s natural metabolism process. Since the procedure directly targets fat cells, it can give effective results without damaging the surrounding tissues or skin.
Cryolipolysis is generally used to reduce stubborn fat in certain areas such as abdomen, hips, legs, arms, back, waist and chin. The procedure takes about an hour and usually a single session is sufficient. After the procedure, the patient can return to normal daily activities immediately and no recovery process is required.
However, cold lipolysis should not be used as a treatment for obesity or weight loss. This method is suitable for healthy people who want to achieve a slimmer body shape. Also, people with any medical condition or cold intolerance should consult a doctor before having this procedure.
How the cold lipolysis – cryolipolysis application is performed?
Cryolipolysis is usually performed in the clinic by a plastic surgeon or specialist technician. The procedure steps are usually as follows:
- Determination of the area: First, the fatty area on the patient’s body to be treated is specified and a gel or protective cloth is placed on the area to be treated.
- Application of cold gels: Cold gels are applied on the fatty area. These gels form a protective layer that prevents the skin from freezing or being damaged.
- Cooling is started: The device is placed to target the fat cells in the determined area by means of a special applicator. The device starts a cooling process at low temperatures for a certain period of time (usually 30-60 minutes).
- Massage or vibration application: After the cold application process, the fat cells in the area are distributed by massaging or vibration. This process allows the frozen fat cells to be absorbed faster.
Cryolipolysis can usually give enough effective results in a single session. However, it may take 3 to 4 months for the post-procedure effects to be observed. After the procedure, it is recommended that the patient follow a healthy diet and exercise routine to lose weight or maintain body shape.
