The shape and structure of the nostrils can significantly affect the overall appearance of the nose. This fact makes the shaping of the nostrils an important stage of rhinoplasty. In order for the nostrils to be compatible with the general structure of the nose and other organs on the face, a comprehensive planning is made before the rhinoplasty operation. The shape of the nostrils have aesthetic reflections and they also have important functions in the respiratory process. Having a certain opening and shape of the nostrils is one of the most important conditions for a quality respiration. We asked Aesthetic, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon Prof. Dr. Şükrü Yazar about nostril aesthetics.
When is Nostril Aesthetics Needed?
Stating that successful results can be obtained with nostril aesthetics if the nostrils are too wide, too narrow or open, the longest part is transverse, bending, pulling or sagging, Prof. Dr. Şükrü Yazar continued his words with the following sentences: “Nostril aesthetics is performed by making an incision from the part where the nostril meets the cheek, removing tissue or providing cartilage support. If necessary, deformations in the nostrils can be corrected by taking a piece of the base tissue of the nose. Nostril aesthetics is a procedure that can be performed not only to expand the nostrils, which are very narrow compared to normal, but also to narrow the nostrils inward. Narrow nostrils can also be corrected by placing the cartilage supporter along the nostril edges to widen the entrance. In some cases, it may be possible to enlarge the opening by relocating the hanging tissue piece. In this way, the problems of patients with nasal congestion can be eliminated and they can breathe more easily. If there is a notch or kink in the outer border of the nostril, these problems can also be eliminated with nostril aesthetics. In cases where there is a minor problem, there is no need for cartilage transplantation. Healing can be achieved by turning the skin down and outward through the nose. If the problem is serious, it may be necessary to take skin or cartilage tissue from the ear and transfer it to the lower edges of the nose. If there is excessive sagging on the upper part of the nose, the desired result can be obtained by cutting this tissue or pulling it upwards.
The Key Point in the Success of Nostril Aesthetics is Correct Analysis and Experience
Aesthetic, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon Prof. Dr. Şükrü Yazar points out that nostril aesthetics is one of the procedures in which the skill of the surgeon is at the forefront. With the completion of the procedure in patients undergoing nostril aesthetics, the suture marks are hidden in the natural folds of the nasal skin. After a healthy healing process, stitch scars can become invisible over time. The planning process before nostril aesthetics is significantly important. In this context, the person’s skin structure and nose shape are evaluated as a whole.
