What is nose rasping?

Nasal rasping surgery is mostly performed to eliminate the arched appearance on the back of the nose. In this procedure, plastic surgeons shave the protrusion that forms the arch of the nasal bone, and reveal a flatter and aesthetic nose structure. Since there is no serious intervention to the nasal bone and other structures in the nasal rasping process, there is no serious swelling and bruising in the face and eyes of the patient after the surgery. Nasal rasping is heading towards being the most preferred surgery for patients with arched nose for this reason. The surgery is performed under local or general anaesthesia.

What is nose rasping and how is it done?

Rasping is generally an aesthetic operation that patients who want to get rid of problems related to the nasal bone apply to correct their nasal arch and curvature problems. This procedure can only be performed on the bones, or cartilage tissue can be rasped when necessary. Thus, the nose is brought into the desired shape.

This surgery is performed by doctors who specialize in aesthetic, plastic and reconstructive surgery, and is performed with local or general anaesthesia according to the patient’s condition.

In addition to classical equipment, ultrasonic devices and tour engines can also be used in surgery (Piezo device/Piezo method). In the surgery, the skin, bone and cartilage are separated from the tissues, then the tip and root of the nose are brought to the desired height. Then, rasping is done based on these settlements.

The use of preservatives such as tampons depends on the surgeon’s choice. Since the bone structures in the nose are not interfered with, there is no need to use plaster, but a bandage can be used to support the bone tissue.

In Turkey, nasal bone development is usually completed at the age of 16-17 in women and 17-18 in men. In very special cases, the age limit for this surgery can be taken earlier as a result of the controls.

In this procedure, the root and tip of the nose are positioned at the correct height. Then, a straight line is assumed between these two points and it is preferred that the nasal bone is slightly curved about 2 millimetres below the line in women and tangent to this line in men. Although this is a general rule, some faces may look better with more curved noses, and some faces may look better with sharp-edged noses.
