What is Neck Lifting?
Aesthetic procedures performed by plastic surgeons to eliminate deformities that begin to appear in the face and neck skin and tissue areas mainly as a sign of aging or due to genetic reasons, weight loss or gain are called neck lifting aesthetics.
For Which Purpose and Why Neck Lifting Aesthetics Are Performed?
The neck, starting from chin margins and descending to shoulder level, is located under the face and cheeks. With the effect of aging and gravity, facial skin collapses on the edges of the chin. This causes the ellipticity of the face to deteriorate and a four-sided appearance on the entire face and neck site. Also, the skin on the neck site becomes loose and bagginess is seen with the formation of deep lines down the corners of the mouth. As a result of the relaxation of the muscles under the neck, vertical bands are formed on this site. After this formation, which is called “turkey neck”, fat accumulation occurs in the jowl, and the neck angle becomes faded. Eliminating the psychological factors of such situations that negatively affect human life is possible only with plastic surgery.
The equipped operating theatre conditions are as necessary as the skilled plastic surgeons to achieve 100% successful results in neck lifting surgery that is generally performed for individuals at the age of 40 and over.
Procedures related to neck lifting aesthetics are performed to eliminate the following; the skin prolapses encountered by men and women who lose weight, deformations that develop due to aging and the aesthetic concerns of individuals experiencing collapses on the edges of the chin. Such procedures, also called facial rejuvenation procedures, can also be performed alone, apart from complete facial aesthetics. In some individuals, neck prolapses may occur without aging, depending on the skin structure.
What are the purposes of neck lifting operations?
- Lifting the loosened skin and removing the excess skin
- Lifting the muscle layer under the skin with sutures
- Removing the excess fat in the neck site
- Lifting the neck muscles by suturing them to each other
- Making the neck angle clear.
How Are Neck Lifting Procedures Performed?
Face and Neck Lifting Process
Neck lifting interventions are the procedures that aim to lift the face and neck skin by performing an incision starting from the front part of the ear (when necessary, extending to the backside of the ear) to the inner side of the scalp. In the cases, whereas neck skin is problem-free, procedures are performed by leaving the scar only in the front of the ear and are called “short-scar facial lifting.”
If there is lipoidosis (fat collection) in the neck site, fats are usually taken by using the liposuction method. If there is a ‘turkey neck’ appearance, an incision is performed under the chin, and the neck muscles are sutured to each other. After this procedure, the neck angle becomes apparent. If the chin bone (lower jaw bone) is behind, the neck angle is made evident with the gonion (jaw bone) prostheses or fat injections. Besides, marionette lines (wrinkles starting from the corners of the lips to the level of the chin) are filled by applying fat injection.
If the lower half of the face has a fat look, the liposuction method can be used for thinning. The excess skin on the neck is removed, and the process is terminated by hiding the incision scars behind the ear or hairline.
Liposuction Application in Neck Lifting Operation
Liposuction is performed for relatively young patients who have not lost their skin elasticity. The neck region can be thinned, and the neck angle is made apparent by the fat removal method. The gonion, chin edges, and marionette lines can be filled with fat taken from fatty sites.
Neck Straps Method in Neck Lifting Operation
It is a method preferred by patients who do not want a scar after the procedure. This method is applicable when skin elasticity is not damaged. After liposuction, the neck skin is hung like a hammock with special sutures pulled out from the incisions that are behind the ear. If required by the surgeon, gonion prosthesis and fat injections can also be included in this procedure.
