What is a Butt Lift?

A butt lift, or gluteal lift, is a surgical procedure that elevates and reshapes the buttocks by removing loose, sagging tissue from above the buttocks. It may be done as part of a lower body lift, along with a thigh lift and a tummy tuck.

Butt lift surgery is frequently performed after massive weight loss, which often occurs after weight-loss surgery.

Who is a Good Candidate for a Butt Lift?

What Can You Expect During Butt Lift Recovery?

Butt lift surgery requires two to three weeks of downtime before you can return to work, and you’ll need to take it easy for two to three months. Ramp up your activity levels slowly and avoid positions that put any strain on your incisions.

Your incision will be covered with surgical dressing. Drains may be placed, to prevent fluid from accumulating around the incisions; they typically remain in place for five days.

You’ll need to wear a compression garment for six weeks or longer, taking it off only when you bathe. It controls swelling and keeps skin taut and smooth.

You’ll be encouraged to walk around the day after surgery, to promote circulation, but you’ll mostly be on bed rest for a few days and will want to have someone there to help you during your recovery.

Sitting is not allowed for a couple of days, to avoid stressing the area. You will be advised on how to position yourself—including the use of pillows—to minimise the tension on your incisions, reduce pain, and minimise scarring.

When Will You See Results from Butt Lift Surgery and How Long Will They Last?

The results of a butt lift are apparent almost immediately, and most major swelling will subside within a couple of months. It may take six months to a year for you to completely heal and see your final result.

Butt lift results are usually long-lasting. Maintaining a stable weight is important for a successful long-term outcome.
