What is a Facial Implant?

Aesthetic surgical procedure performed with the materials called silicone or Medpor known as facial implants to correct the asymmetries or deformities that distort the harmony between the cheekbones and chin is called facial implant surgery in medical language.

With the considerable developments of technology, very successful results are obtained today in facial implant procedures. Before the development of facial implant technology, bones, or cartilages taken from the patient’s body were used to solve the problems that distort the harmony between the cheekbones and chin. Today, this surgery is performed with ready-made implants.

What are the Types of Facial Implants?

Facial implants are mainly used for the chin and cheek. With the help of these implants, the face gains a much more impressive and aesthetic appearance. Also, the facial implant surgical procedure eliminates many visual cosmetic problems in people’s faces. It especially ensures the nose to look much more pleasant. Then, what are the types of implants applied to patients’ faces for various reasons?

Chin Implant

The harmony between the chin and nose is a factor that directly determines the general appearance of the face. When standing straight, if the straight line descending from the forehead to the upper lip is in line with the line descending to the anatomic spot gonion on the chin, it means that the angle of the nose with the chin is ideal. However, if it is not in line and the chin is effusing this line, an excessively strong chin is in question. In such a situation, the nose looks more platy or smaller. If the chin does not reach this line, then the chin is not apparent enough that causes a typical nose to look much more abundant. To correct these proportions, chin implant surgery is performed by plastic surgeons, and the proportion of the nose and chin is tried to be corrected.

How is Chin Implant Surgery Performed?

A prosthesis is placed in front of the chin. An optional incision is performed through the mouth or under the chin. Generally, the surgeon prefers to insert the implant through the mouth; however, if the procedure is performed together with the face-lift operation, it is more appropriate to make the incision under the chin so that the same incision can be used for both procedures. Chin implant surgery takes half an hour on average.

Cheek Implant

Cheek implant is applied to the cheekbones of the patients. More apparent cheekbones give an attractive appearance to the patient. For this reason, the cheek implant is frequently preferred by women for aesthetic purposes. The cheek implant is often sought out by famous people (models, actors, etc.) who are in front of the camera. In most cases, patients are satisfied with the results and enjoy their new appearance.

How is Cheek Implant Surgery Performed?

In cheekbone implants, the incision is generally performed between the cheeks and gums in the mouth. Therefore, the scar is not seen. However, if the procedure is performed together with an eyelid or face-lift procedure, the inside of lower eyelids or the front side of the ears are preferred for the incision. In cases where the front part of the patient’s cheeks will be protruded according to the surgical planning, the implant is inserted vertically on the cheekbone. If the patient’s face is aimed to be wider, the implant is inserted from the front. Cheek implant procedure takes approximately an hour.
