What is Genital Reconstruction Surgery?
The medical term “genital reconstruction” includes the surgical correction of various problems such as loss of penis as a result of environmental factors such as accidents, burns, ruptures in men, tissue ablation resulting from resection of vulvar tumours (female external genitalia) in women or correction of a congenital anomaly of the penis (hypospadias) in newborn babies.
- Surgical Repairment of the Vagina
Broad tissue defects occur as a result of vulvar (female external genitalia) tumour resections. Microsurgical vaginal repair is performed in the case of vulvar tumours and congenital anomalies. - Surgical Repairment of the Penis
Environmental factors such as accidents could lead to the loss of the penis. In such conditions penis is reconstructed with transplantation of tissues (including the bones) from arms or legs. When penis reconstruction is performed with tissue transplantation, the application of penile prosthesis can enable sexual functionality. - Surgical Repairment of the Newborn Penis Anomaly (Hypospadias)
Hypospadias is a congenital genital anomaly that is caused by endocrinologic, enzymatic changes or local tissue defect. MAG-PI Mathieu technique is the most frequently preferred surgical method in the treatment of hypospadias. Complication rates have become lower with the development of surgical techniques.
