What is tuberous breast (tubular breasts)?
Tuberous breasts (tubular breasts), also called conical breasts, goat breasts, hypoplastic breasts and separated and asymmetrical breasts is formed during the breast development process in both women and men characterised by the narrowness of the breast base, wide nipple circumference and high lower breast fold. It is called congenital deformity caused by herniation of breast tissue outward from the nipple. The plastic surgery operation performed to eliminate these problems is called tuberous breast correction surgery or tubular breast correction surgery.
The condition called developmental disability or abnormality causes a process that worries patients and negatively affects them psychologically. It is inevitable to correct such situations, which adversely affect the comfort of life by fuelling aesthetic concerns, due to both anatomical and psychological reasons.
Surgical procedures performed on breasts with visually asymmetrical, shape and volume anomalies are called tuberous breast correction surgery. You can visit the breast aesthetics page to examine in full detail the other aesthetic surgery operations performed by Prof. Dr. Şükrü Yazar for all congenital or subsequent deformations in the breast structure.
Apart from breast size – smallness – drooping and nipple problems that women see as a problem, tuberous breast (tubular breast) deformity, which is the most common and the most difficult to correct aesthetically and colloquially known as goat’s breast – tubular breast aesthetic deformity, was first described in 1976 as a tube-shaped breast.
How and why does the tuberous breast (tubular breasts) form?
This breast ailment in men and women continues to be examined by making analyses and scientific studies on the surgical correction of tuberous breast – tubular breast anomaly, its classification, categorization, how and why it occurs. Although the cause has not been fully revealed yet, it is widely believed that such deformations occur due to a genetic coding error that causes a stop in the breast development process.
As a result of the stop in the normal development of the breast tissue in women or men, it causes the appearance of the breast to develop in different ways:
- Separate breasts
- Stenosis of the base of the breast
- The dark area around the nipple is wider than usual
- High lower breast fold
- Herniation of the breast tissue from the nipple
- Breast sagging
- Asymmetry between the breasts
- Non-development of the breast (hypoplasia)
The severity of tube udder (goat udder) pathology is determined by looking at whether one or all of these abnormalities occur in an individual.
What is the effect of tuberous breasts (tubular breasts) degree on treatment?
Tuberous breasts (tubular breasts) impair the aesthetic appearance and body perception of patients. Treatment of tuberous (tubular) breasts is planned according to the degree of the existing deformity. Asymmetry is often seen in tuberous (tubular) breasts. While one of the breasts develops normally, the other may have the appearance of a goat’s breast.
Tuberous (tubular) breasts can sometimes be so slight as to be unnoticeable, and sometimes manifest themselves with obvious asymmetry and deformations. Treatment is planned to correct these existing deformities.
Correction of Tuberous breasts (tubular breasts) deformity
It is important to inform the patients in detail before the surgery.
- Opening the stenosis at the base of the breast
- Reducing the level of the fold under the breast to the required level
- Opening the stenosis in the breast tissue and expanding the breast tissue
- Reducing the size of the areola (the dark area around the nipple)
- Correction of herniated tissues from the nipple area
- If necessary, using breast implants to increase breast volume
- Correction of asymmetry; breast lift, reduction or breast augmentation operations are performed to correct the asymmetry between the breasts.
Is there any scar after tuberous breasts (tubular breasts) surgery?
In cases of tuberous (tubular) breasts that can only be corrected with fat injection, it is possible to obtain the desired breast image without leaving any scars. As a result of aesthetic operations performed in other ways, it is inevitable to leave traces that are tolerable and hardly noticeable. Incisions are made from the nipple or the lower part of the breast, depending on the size of the existing deformity. These incisions are very difficult to notice once they heal over time.
What is the process after tuberous breasts (tubular breasts) surgery?
Patients who meet their expectations with tuberous breasts (tubular breasts) aesthetics can return to their normal lives within 2-4 days. Sports and exercises that require light effort can be performed in a short period of one to two weeks. After 3-4 weeks after the aesthetic surgery, the patient can return to normal life without any restrictions.

Tuberous Breasts (Tubular Breasts) Frequently Asked Questions
Is there a difference between tuberous breasts and tubular breasts deformity?
Yes, there is. In the tuberous breast, stenosis is evident at the base of the breast. The dark area around the nipple is wide and the breast tissue has herniated from this area. Insufficient development of breast skin and breast tissue (hypoplasia) is observed. In the tubular breast, the breast has the appearance of a tube; the length of the breast is elongated. Breast tissue, i.e., breast volume is normal in size or the size has increased
Can breastfeeding mothers have tuberous breasts (tubular breast) surgery?
First, the baby is expected to be weaned, and then the surgery is performed.
At what age is the tube-shaped breasts (tuberous breasts – tubular breasts) surgery performed?
It can be done from the age of 16-18 if it harms the appearance and psychology of young girls and boys.
Is tuberous breasts (tubular breasts) correction performed for men?
Tuberous breasts (tubular breasts) deformity is also frequently encountered in men and correction surgery is also performed in men.
Does tuberous breasts (tubular breasts) correction harm the heart?
No, it certainly won’t. In these procedures performed on the breast tissue, the heart or other internal organs are not damaged.
How to diagnose tuberous breasts (tubular breasts)?
This condition is mostly detected with breast development during adolescence. With the end of the adolescence period, the tuberous (tubular) udder deformity (goat udder) is fully revealed.
Since the patients cannot define this condition, they apply to the physician with complaints such as “split breasts”, “small, drooping and asymmetrical breasts”.
There are degrees of tuberous breasts (tubular breasts) deformity. Mild tuberous breasts (tubular breasts) deformities may be difficult for patients to spot. Therefore, the frequency of this deformity in the community is higher than is known. Such mild tuberous (tubular) breasts are often diagnosed incidentally. Tuberous breasts (tubular breasts) diagnosis can be easily made by experienced plastic surgeons. Tuberous breasts (tubular breasts) deformity is also frequently observed in men.
How is tuberous breasts (tubular breasts) treatment planned?
Tuberous (tubular) breasts impair the aesthetic appearance and body perception of patients. Treatment of tuberous (tubular) breasts is planned according to the size of the existing deformity.
Treatment is planned to improve these existing deformities.
Recovery after tuberous breasts (tubular breasts) correction surgery
Tuberous (tubular) breast (goat udder) surgery takes approximately 1-2 hours. Pain that may occur after surgery is controlled with painkillers. Patients may need to use sports bras for a while. Arm movements may be limited for a few days. During the recovery period, massaging the operation area as recommended by the doctor will also relax the patient.
Tuberous breasts (tubular breasts) and breastfeeding relationship
Breastfeeding in tuberous (tubular breasts) may be affected by the degree of deformity in the breasts. Severe stenosis at the base of the breast and significant herniation on the nipple may adversely affect the formation of milk glands and milk ducts. In mild tuberous breasts (tubular breasts) deformities, breastfeeding function is usually not affected.
