Under-Eye Bags

Under-Eye Bags

What is an under-eye bag?

As people get older, loosening, sagging and swelling disorders that occur in the sebaceous glands that support the eyes and eyelids due to weakening of the lower parts of the eyes, the muscles supporting the eyelids, and the tissues around the eyes are expressed as under-eye bags.

If the appearance of your under-eye bags reduces your quality of life, the first thing you should do is to talk to a plastic surgeon and learn about treatment alternatives. It is important that people who cannot have any of the permanent solutions for under-eye bags with medical options after the interview at least adjust their sleep patterns. They should sleep at least 6-8 hours a day, and they should make it their mission to keep their pillows a little higher when they go to bed. If people make a habit of sleeping in this way, it will prevent fluid accumulation (edema) under the eyes in the long term.

How do under-eye bags form?

What are the most important reasons for the formation of under-eye bags and swelling of under-eye bags?

  • Hereditary causes
  • Aging
  • Stress and fatigue
  • Medications used and hormonal changes
  • Weather changes and allergic conditions
  • Less and irregular sleep

Effects of bags under the eyes

In addition to affecting the aesthetic appearance, under-eye bags cause a tired, old and sleepless appearance.

What should be considered before surgery for under-eye bags?

Nail polish, jewellery and lenses should be removed before the surgery. The use of drugs and herbal teas with blood thinning properties should be discontinued. Patients should inform their physicians of the drugs they need to use during the examination and the planning should be done accordingly.

How are under-eye bags treated? What is under-eye bags surgery?

Under-eye bags surgery is performed under local or general anaesthesia and takes about one hour. The procedure is done with incisions made from the inside of the eyelid or the bottom of the eyelashes. Thus, almost no scars remain after the operation. With surgery, the accumulated fat tissue is removed, worn muscles are repaired and the muscles are tightened.

What should be considered after the surgery?

In the first two days after the surgery, cold compress is applied to the eyelids for 10 minutes at intervals for a few hours. This cold compress helps prevent edema and bruising. It is important to sleep with the head up in the first week after the surgery. Care should be taken as the risk of bleeding and edema may increase after intense activities.

Non-surgical treatment of under-eye bags

Radiofrequency methods can be used for bags under the eyes. With this method, the skin in the area is tightened. The type of filling called under-eye light filling, thanks to the minerals, vitamins and amino acids it contains, not only helps to revitalise the skin of this area, but also helps to camouflage the under-eye bags by filling the tear trough.

Apart from these, various methods applied at home and creams for under-eye bags, cosmetic products provide partial relief, but they do not provide a permanent solution to the existing problem in the long run.

What is the cost of under-eye bag surgery?

It is against the law in Turkey for the healthcare organisations including private practices to indicate prices online for procedures, treatments or consultations. Please contact us by calling or texting ?+90 541 334 3484 (WhatsApp available) or ☏ +90 212 257 1515 for the average cost of the procedure or any other enquiries related to the procedure. You need to send some photos to the Patient Care Coordinator to be examined by Professor Yazar to get the exact price.

Under-Eye Bags Frequently Asked Questions

What to do for under-eye bags?

Under-eye bags are treated with or without surgery. There are also non-surgical methods such as under-eye light filling and radiofrequency for under-eye bags that can be removed with approximately one hour of surgery.

Why do under-eye bags swell?

Depending on age, genetic and environmental factors, the under-eye bags swell due to the relaxation of the skin and muscles under the eyes and the accumulation of fat in this area

Which vitamin deficiency are the under-eye bags related to?

Although bruises under the eyes are sometimes related to vitamin B12 deficiency, vitamin deficiency is not usually among the causes of under-eye bags. However, regular nutrition and taking the appropriate amount of each vitamin, especially a diet rich in vitamins A, C, E and K, can reduce the formation of under-eye bags.

Do under-eye bags go away naturally?

Methods such as cold water and ice compress, dressing with tea under the eyes are applied to remove under-eye bags. However, even if these methods provide instant relief, they do not provide an effective and permanent solution.

Is there any cream that removes under-eye bags in two minutes?

Some cosmetic products on the market claim to remove under-eye bags in a short time. Even if the related creams or cosmetic products have certain effects, it is not possible to eliminate the under-eye bags in two minutes. Although patients state that they benefit from some haemorrhoid creams, these drugs should not be used without the advice of a doctor.

Are there any suitable creams for under-eye bags?

There are creams offered by cosmetic companies for this purpose. However, the effectiveness of creams is not as permanent as surgical methods and non-surgical medical procedures.

How to treat genetic bags under the eyes?

One of the causes of under-eye bags is genetic factors. In its treatment, under-eye bags surgery or non-surgical methods such as radiofrequency and under-eye light filling can be used.

Under-eye bags that occur when you laugh

The problem of under-eye bags, which are not normally noticed but appear when you laugh, is mostly genetic. Rarely, this may indicate a disease. In this case, it is important to consult a doctor.
