Breast implants come in different types according to their contents, casings, and shapes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Breast implants can be categorized according to their contents as silicone and saline (physiological) filled. Silicone gel-filled implants consist of an outer shell filled with silicone gel. Saline-filled breast implants are filled with a saline solution. The amount of saline solution inside the implant affects the firmness and shape of the breast. If leakage occurs in a saline implant, the saline solution is naturally absorbed and excreted by the body.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to their casings, breast implants are divided into two types: smooth and textured. Textured breast implants have small bumps on their surface. This type of implant is designed to reduce the risk of capsular contracture, a complication that develops in some women after breast augmentation surgery. Flat-surface breast implants are the softest among the different types of implants. They generally provide a more natural-looking breast movement compared to other implants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Breast implants can be classified as round and teardrop-shaped. Round breast implants, with their semi-spherical appearance, provide a fuller look in the d\u00e9collet\u00e9 area of the breast. Teardrop implants are thinner at the top and wider at the bottom. A fuller look can be achieved in the lower part of the breast with teardrop implants. Teardrop implants are generally preferred in patients with mild breast sagging who do not require a breast lift procedure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While there are many different types of breast implants, the choice of which type to use is determined individually based on the patient&#8217;s structural characteristics and expectations from the surgery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What techniques are used in breast augmentation surgery?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Breast augmentation surgery can be performed under general anesthesia using different techniques. One of these techniques is through the inframammary fold, also known as the inframammary crease. In this procedure, an incision is made in the crease under the breast. This technique allows the surgeon to have more direct control over implant placement. It also has minimal impact on the milk-producing areas of the breast and allows for good concealment of the surgical incision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the technique known as the peri-areolar incision (around the nipple), an incision is made along the edge of the areola. Because the incision is very close to the milk-producing areas of the breast, women who undergo breast augmentation with the peri-areolar technique may experience more problems with breastfeeding and nipple sensation after surgery. This technique is generally preferred for women with very small breasts who do not have an inframammary fold.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the method also called the transaxillary (armpit) approach, an incision is made in the armpit. This method is generally used to place the implant under or above the muscle. It is an advantageous method because it leaves no scar on the breast itself. However, symmetrical implant placement may be more difficult in procedures using an armpit incision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Breast implants can be placed under the breast tissue, under the muscle, under the fascia, or partially under the muscle and partially under the breast tissue (dual plane). The technique to be used in breast augmentation surgery and the placement of the breast implant are determined according to the characteristics of the breast tissue, the patient&#8217;s needs, expectations from the surgery, the thickness of the breast tissue, and the elasticity and quality of the skin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What precautions should be taken after breast augmentation surgery?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After breast augmentation surgery, patients are usually kept under observation for one night. After discharge, medications prescribed by the doctor should be used regularly. Pain, stiffness, and tenderness in the surgical area are considered normal during the first week following the operation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Patients can usually return to work 3-5 days after the operation. Until the swelling completely subsides after breast augmentation surgery, the breasts may appear larger and more asymmetrical than planned. It may take approximately 6-12 months for the swelling to completely disappear and for the breasts to reach the planned size. Difficulty raising the arms may be experienced in the early post-operative period. During this time, patients should avoid pushing, pulling, and lifting heavy objects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For the first 4-6 weeks after the operation, excessive physical activity, heavy housework, and sports should be avoided. A sports bra recommended by the doctor should be used during this period.
